General tips

  • Avoid travel at busy times like weekends.
  • Conventional ferries are cheaper than crossings on fast craft.
  • Overnight crossings where accomodation is compulsory are pricier than crossings during the day.


Eurotunnel

  • Journey times 35 minutes.
  • Possible fine for late arrival.
  • Travel cheapest at off peak times.
  • Fares depend on length of stay and whether you have a reservation or not.


SeaFrance

  • Avoid weekend travel.
  • Cheapest journey times: Outward - between 6am and 14.00, return - between 13.00 and 23.00.
  • 5 day return: for excursions up to and including 120 hours duration.


Brittany Ferries

  • Plymouth to Santander crossings sail on Mondays and Wednesdays, Santander to Plymouth on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • 5 day returns are worked out on the basis of arrival time in France.
  • Brittany Ferries do not transport rabbits.

P &O Ferries

  • Dover- Calais is the shortest route - crossing time of 75 minutes.
  • If you are uncertain of the vehicle registration number, it can be clarified when you check in at the port.

Stena
  • Harwich to Hook of Holland - ferries depart twice daily.
  • Stranraer to Belfast - crossings five times per day on the HSS service/ three times a day on the superferry service.
