General tips
- Avoid travel at busy times like weekends.
- Conventional ferries are cheaper than crossings on fast craft.
- Overnight crossings where accomodation is compulsory are pricier than crossings during the day.
Eurotunnel
- Journey times 35 minutes.
- Possible fine for late arrival.
- Travel cheapest at off peak times.
- Fares depend on length of stay and whether you have a reservation or not.
SeaFrance
- Avoid weekend travel.
- Cheapest journey times: Outward - between 6am and 14.00, return - between 13.00 and 23.00.
- 5 day return: for excursions up to and including 120 hours duration.
Brittany Ferries
- Plymouth to Santander crossings sail on Mondays and Wednesdays, Santander to Plymouth on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- 5 day returns are worked out on the basis of arrival time in France.
- Brittany Ferries do not transport rabbits.
P &O Ferries
- Dover- Calais is the shortest route - crossing time of 75 minutes.
- If you are uncertain of the vehicle registration number, it can be clarified when you check in at the port.
Stena - Harwich to Hook of Holland - ferries depart twice daily.
- Stranraer to Belfast - crossings five times per day on the HSS service/ three times a day on the superferry service.
